Excuse Me, Universe? Hi, I Asked For Steak…

Sometimes you ask the universe for a steak and it sends you a cow.

Not a particularly healthy one, either.

And instead of saying, this isn’t what I asked for, we start trying to figure out how to make it work.

We see what it could be.

A relationship that could be beautiful if things changed.
A job that could be fulfilling if the environment got better.
A house that could feel like home if we stayed a little longer.
A life that could finally make us happy if just worked harder at it.

So we stay.
We invest.
We adjust.
We start treating potential like promise.

And the longer we stay, the harder it becomes to admit that maybe it was never right for us in the first place. Because now we’ve put time into it. We’ve made sacrifices for it. We’ve rearranged pieces of ourselves to accommodate it.

Walking away starts to feel like wasting everything we’ve already gave. But staying doesn’t make the wrong thing right.

Sometimes we become so focused on making something work that we forget to ask whether we even want it anymore.

Whether it still fits.
Whether we’re happy.

Whether we’re choosing it – or simply continuing to choose it because we’ve already chosen it so many times before.

And maybe that’s the lesson.

Not everything that enters our lives is ours to fix, grow, heal or turn into something else. Sometimes the lesson is simply learning to look at what’s actually in front of us instead of what we know it could become.

Maybe the cow isn’t bad. Maybe there’s nothing wrong with the cow at all.

But it still isn’t what you asked for and you’re allowed to leave it where you found it.
